Review Literature (review + literature)
Selected AbstractsImproving the health of populations , evidence for policy and practice actionJOURNAL OF EVIDENCE BASED MEDICINE, Issue 4 2009Gilbert Ramírez The evidence-based movement has greatly improved how health scientists review literature. It has also resulted in improvements in the conduct and reporting of primary studies. Its impact in the practice of clinical medicine has been greater than in public health, both in terms of practice and policy decisions. In order to substantially improve population health, there needs to be a paradigm shift in academia , evidence should be guided by the needs of practitioners and policymakers in terms of relevance and timeliness. [source] Feminist geography, the ,everyday', and local, global relations: hidden spaces of place-making,THE CANADIAN GEOGRAPHER/LE GEOGRAPHE CANADIEN, Issue 3 2005Isabel Dyck An interest in the taken-for-granted, mundane routine activities of women's lives has long been central to the production of knowledge in feminist geography. Here, I revisit the ,everyday' in relation to changing lines of inquiry as geographers work to capture the complexity of local, global relations in conceptualising an accelerated pace of the stretching of social relations over space. Through a primary focus on feminist work on care in the home, I explore the various ways in which the meanings and organisation of caregiving activity are intricately connected with the intertwining of globalisation, neoliberalism, social conservatism and a ,greying' population in the West. Foregrounding gender in my discussion, I review literature and draw on research examples to illustrate ways in which various types of ,hidden' caregiving contribute to contemporary place-making, and open up our understanding of the ,local'. Brune Abstract The present paper describes what happens at the surface of a crystal as its temperature steadily increases from zero Kelvin close to the bulk melting temperature. We treat thermal motion, such as the diffusion of individual adatoms establishing mass transport, the formation of adatom or vacancy gases coexisting with islands or steps of the condensed phase, surface phonons and the anharmonicity of the surface potential being markedly different from the one in bulk, as well as thermally induced reconstructions, surface roughening, and finally surface melting, which usually well precedes bulk melting. The paper intends to give an overview with references to the original and review literature. [source] Thermal dynamics at surfacesANNALEN DER PHYSIK, Issue 10-11 2009H. [source] Work, organisation and Enterprise Resource Planning systems: an alternative research agendaNEW TECHNOLOGY, WORK AND EMPLOYMENT, Issue 3 2006Kristine Dery This paper reviews literature that examines the design, implementation and use of Enterprise Resource Planning systems (ERPs). It finds that most of this literature is managerialist in orientation, and concerned with the impact of ERPs in terms of efficiency, effectiveness and business performance. The paper seeks to provide an alternative research agenda, one that emphasises work- and organisation-based approaches to the study of the implementation and use of ERPs. [source] Analysis of the adverse reactions induced by natural product-derived drugsBRITISH JOURNAL OF PHARMACOLOGY, Issue 7 2010Zhi-Ping Zeng Compared with the therapeutic effects of established medicinal drugs, it is often considered that natural product-derived drugs are of a more benign nature in side-effects, which has made natural medicines become a popular form of therapy. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is generally considered as being natural and harmless. TCM has been paid much more attention than before and widely used for the treatment nowadays. However, with the increasing cases of adverse drug reactions (ADRs), the ADRs induced by TCM are becoming more widely recognized. Some ADRs are sometimes even life-threatening. This article reviews literatures on ADRs induced by TCM which was published in the past 10 years. A total of 3122 cases including complete data are selected for the present analysis. From the data of the 3122 cases, statistics is carried out to the distribution of administration routes and time of the occurrence of ADRs, the prognosis of ADRs, sex and age factors, types and clinical symptoms of ADRs, and drugs involved in ADRs. In addition, occurrence and influencing factors of TCM-induced diseases are also analysed, which includes spices confusion, processing drugs improperly, toxic components, long-term medication, improper concerted application, interaction of TCM and Western medicine. It is concluded that the efficacy and toxicity of TCM, often using the compound prescription involving various plants and animals, resulted from a variety of chemical constituents, which lead to a comprehensive response in the human body. The ,toxicity' of TCM should be correctly recognized and reasonably utilized. [source] |
